Regardless of where ECU stands, responsibility ultimately falls to the students in making the best use of their institutional experience. ECU can be seen as a modern and dynamic university. Apart from offering up-to-date, market demand courses, ECU also boasts excellent facilities especially in terms of investment in its IT infrastructure and new building projects that greatly facilitate the student's overall educational progress. Teaching from lecturers is also at a competitive and high level.

I personally feel ECU just needs to attract more quality students and as current students, we need to show we have the necessary quality and substance. Eventually we graduate with ECU degrees and basically become ambassadors to our university...

“The NLC Annual Conference is the supreme decision-making body of NLC where national policies are formulated and then implemented by the NLC National Executive in co-operation with NLC Branches and International Student Organizations on tertiary campuses.” - NLC

In simple terms, this conference is about bringing together delegates (international student leaders) from various Universities across different states in Australia for the common purpose of discussing and debating current issues faced by overseas students on a national level. Delegates then begin the crucial task of formulating new policies or amending existing standing policies that contribute towards the well-being of international students.

After weaving through tons of constitutional formalities and a thorough voting process, successful policies would then be lobbied by the NLC National Executive (made up of elected student leaders at the conference) to various Government bodies. NLC basically represents the “voice” of international students and ensures our rights are protected and made known to us.

The Conference consisted of workshops and policy debates covering issues such as:

-SKILLED MIGRATION SCHEME ► New Changes - Effective September 1st 07

-STUDENT VISA ► WWW.IMMI.GOV.AU

-WORKING RIGHTS

-RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ► NEW ESOS FRAMEWORK

-ENSURING THAT AN EDUCATION IN AUSTRALIA IS OF HIGH QUALITY, SAFE, ENJOYABLE AND ULTIMATELY REWARDING.

Representatives from SSA, MSA (Malaysian Students Association), ASA (African Students Association) and the ISA (Indian Students Association) formed the contingent representing ECU’s International Students Council.
